The Credit Union was established in November 1966 to serve the employees and families of the Sea Island Company - The Cloister Hotel on Sea Island, Georgia.

In 1980, the field of membership was amended to include individuals not associated with the Sea Island Company and The Cloister Hotel. Again in 2009, the field of membership was extended to any resident of Glynn County, Georgia or any person that is a member or would like to become a member of The Getting Ahead Association.

Membership is open to anyone that works or has worked at Sea Island Company - The Cloister Hotel.

Membership is also open to family members related by blood, adoption, marriage or living in the same household with a member or former member.

Frederica Credit Union has members all over the USA. We serve our members in other areas of the country through a network of credit unions called the Shared Branch Network. The Shared Branch Network has thousands of branches that our members can use and have immediate access to their Frederica Credit Union accounts. This is a free service. We also participate in the CU24 ATM Network, which has thousands of ATMs. The ATMs in the CU24 Network, which display the "CU Here" decal, are free

Locally, the membership is served through two full service offices, in Brunswick, Georgia at 4401 Altama Avenue and at 495 Sea Island Road, St. Simons Island, Georgia. The hours for both offices are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
